A New Look: Simple Threads for Spring 2020
Hello, 2020 ~ This year marks the conclusion of the 2010s and the beginning of a new decade. 2010-2019 was such a blur that it seems like a decade hasn't even passed. In fact, it feels like that decade was rather compressed into one hectic year. However, with the new year comes the development of fresh ideas and trends. A significant factor that contributes to the gradual progression of trends is fashion. There is a saying that clothes define and make the individual. This can be a generalized saying but apart from character traits, how an individual dresses may emulate his/her/their personal style. For example, throughout the years, I have shifted from wearing skinny jeans and form-fitting graphic tees into accumulating and wearing baggier, looser crew tees in men's sizes with leggings. In result, I would generally say that my personal style now is more casual and relaxed with a tomboy-ish flare. Also, I would like to add that my personal style has definitely watered down to basic colors with little to no accessories, such as jewelry. Thanks to cleaning out my closet and applying the KonMari method, maintaining this clutter-free, wholesome look puts my mind more at ease. With that being said, styles come-and-go, and everyone may not necessarily adhere to a specific style for a prolonged amount of time.
Similarly to my previous post about fashion ideas for Spring 2018, here are 4 ideas for simple clothing pieces and/or accessories that may inspire you, the reader, to dress down for Spring 2020.
Outfit Set #1 (For Her)
Keepin' it casual with this minimal, but appealing outfit. A pair of dark wash skinny denim jeans (or leggings of your choice) can be matched with a basic tee along with a solid colored cardigan. Accessorize with a cute headpiece, such as a pale pink beanie, and a pair of black-on-black Converse high-top sneakers. Note how each clothing piece is a different color. Although different, each color creates a contrast from the other colors that somehow make it appear compatible.
Outfit Set #2 (For Her)
Once again, this outfit is a casual set but with a darker undertone. This set is probably the closest to what my personal style is, as I prefer crepuscular and earthier shades of color. Here, we have a pewter colored crew tee worn with a pair of high-waisted black denim jeans. The model is seen here carrying a black leather shoulder bag and accessorizing a few pieces of sterling silver jewelry. Layer it all off with a bold, dark colored cardigan or coat to finalize the look.
Outfit Set #3 (For Her)
I can't complete this blog post if I don't have a student-inspired look because not only am I a student, but this set may serve as a inspiration for casual twenty or even thirty-somethings who are still enrolled in school. For this third set, we have a color block hoodie with a pair of high-waisted black skinny denim jeans along with a pair of classic white Nike Air Force 1 sneakers. Accessorize with aviator sunglasses and if you're a student, a black backpack with the signature Nike swoosh logo or any other backpack is the way to go.
Outfit Set #4 (For Him)
Now, you may wonder why on Earth I included an inspired set of clothes for men, but hear me out. As someone who shops for and has also worn men's clothing over the years, I received a general idea on what seems fashionably appealing to the eye. At least, in my eyes. But, hopefully, this set may also bring some interest to others as well. Left: The first outfit brings a blend of casual and sporty. A clean, white hoodie and black trousers are worn with a pair of Vans Old Skool sneakers. Top it off with a grey colored trench coat for extra warmth and an additional, but subtle pop of color. Middle: This next outfit reminds me of how nearly every young male individual dresses in college/university. However, I can see why they usually dress in this style because it appears to be very comfortable and easy to just throw on when they're in a hurry to get to class. Here, we have a light heather grey crew neck sweatshirt with dark navy blue trousers (or jeans, if you'd prefer that instead) and a pair of white sneakers. This outfit is ideal if you're on the run or if it's an easy, relaxing day to hang out with friends or perform some daily errands. Right: Finally, this outfit displays a blend of casual and dressy. If you're out on a date night with a special someone, this style may be compatible if you're not looking for anything too formal. For this last set, layers are essential to creating this look. A white collared dress shirt is worn underneath a grey knit sweater. Layer the top half with a even darker grey overcoat. Complete the look with a pair of black trousers or jeans and white sneakers.
